To collect these results each of the 22,000 consumers was asked;

“What Online Media Do You Regularly Use To Find Inspiration For Your Purchase?”

And they were asked to select up to three.

This is what the research found;

  • 37% of consumers used social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin as inspiration for their purchase
  • 34% of consumers used individual retailer websites as inspiration for their purchase
  • 32% of consumers used price comparison websites as inspiration for their purchase
  • 21% of consumers used multi brand websites as inspiration for their purchase
  • 20% of consumers used visual social networks such as YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat as inspiration for their purchase
  • 16% of consumers used travel review websites as inspiration for their purchase
  • 14% of consumers used emails from brands or retailers as inspiration for their purchase
  • 12% of consumers used ‘deal of the day’ websites as inspiration for their purchase
  • 11% of consumers used blogs, blog posts and guest blogs as inspiration for their purchase
  • 11% of consumers used mobile apps as inspiration for their purchase
  • 6% of consumers used digital press and magazines as inspiration for their purchase
