As you will have seen from previous blog posts, we really enjoy being part of the local community. Personally, I have a ‘chequered’ past with education. When given the opportunity to support school children with their future I always do what I can. I recently received an email from Vicki the Careers Co-ordinator and Advisor at Nene Park Academy. She invited me to be part of the Mock Interviewing Day at Nene Park Academy.

I will be going to Nene Park Academy and interviewing on Tuesday 27th September for the day. It’s expected I will meet around 4 students an hour. I will be asking the students the sorts of questions that they can expect in a ‘real-life’ interview. After the interview I will complete their feedback form for them.

Having a 16-year-old stepdaughter that has just got her first job, I can see the importance of these sessions. My stepdaughter had no interview experience at all and didn’t know what to expect. There are so many children that would be in this position if it wasn’t for events like this. This is why I am so keen to be involved in this sort of event. I know it works and I have seen the importance for events like this.

As volunteer people in business interviewing at Nene Park Academy we will be given a list of questions that we can ask the students. Like I said, these are all the sorts of questions the students could expect in an interview in the ‘real world’. It’s a great opportunity for students to hear these questions and think about how they will answer them, now and in the future.

Speaking to Viki about the importance she said: “Mock interviews greatly benefit students as it allows them to practice the process and allows them the chance to attempt some usual interview questions. Building their confidence ready for their first real interview for employment or education.”

Being part of an event like mock interviewing at Nene Park Academy is a great experience for me, as a business owner, and for the students. If you ever get the chance to be involved in an event like this, say Yes. Meanwhile, if you’d like to be involved with Nene Park Academy and future careers events, let me know. I will be happy to connect you with Vicki.
