Late last year I chose to join 1Networking and their MidShires group. I have been running my successful business since 2013. The business has grown through networking. This was how I started my business, and this is how I get the business out there.
I’ve been a member of a few different networking groups and I move on every few years to meet new people. For me, it’s about the people in the room, not just the businesses. For example, 1Networking meets every week. If I’m going to spend 90 minutes with a group of people each week, it needs to be people I like.
I also take the time to get to know the businesses as well as the business owners. This means I can get an understanding of their business. I then know how they can help my clients and how I can help theirs too.
1Networking gives me brilliant opportunities to do exactly this. The meeting takes place on Zoom every Tuesday from 12noon til 1.30pm. We have informal networking, 60 second presentations and a 10-minute presentation from one member. Then we are out in break out rooms to meet another member and chat for 15 minutes. This is the perfect chance to build relationships with other members.
After the relationship builder session, we have what’s called an Insight. This is like a mini-mastermind session. Each member gets a week each to share their ‘problem’ with the group. As the members have different backgrounds and knowledge, we can then share advice or ideas that might help.
Finally, we have what is known as RIO round-up. We talk about what we have done that week to help other members. That could be inviting a guest, having a 1-2-1 or promoting another member on social media for example. There is no pressure. It’s just a nice way of helping each other.
