Every business have a rough idea of what they think their keywords could be, for example if you are selling Burgers in Peterborough, your keywords may be Burgers in Peterborough, Burger Van in Peterborough, Beefburgers in Peterborough and similar. This is a very vague example, but it gives you the general idea of keywords / key-terms you may be looking at.

Keywords are brilliant for SEO purposes; these are the things that help Google make sure you are at the top of Google for the right keywords and search terms. If you sell burgers in Peterborough that’s what you want to be found for – you don’t want to be found for perfume on Glasgow, do you?

You need to put these keywords into content throughout your website; ideally you want each page of your website to focus on a different keyword, having at least one page per keyword and one keyword per page. Don’t try to use one page to optimise 5-6 different keywords as the search engine robots will get confused and you could risk not being ranked for any of the keywords.

When writing website content you should have a clear and narrow goal with relevant content for the chosen keyword of each page. You need to make the content on your website pages 100% relevant to the keywords, while making sure it is unique, engaging and informative for visitors to your website pages.

Every SEO Company or ‘SEO Expert’ will have a different idea when it comes to keyword density, but the general majority opt for 3-5%, if you go over 6% keyword density in an article it will be seen as spammy by search engine robots and it will not be enjoyable for ‘real people’ (also known as ‘your potential customers’).

To figure out your keyword density in an article or any website content you write, add up how many times you use your chosen keyword and divide it by the amount of words in the article. For example, if you’ve written a 300 word article about burgers in Peterborough and you have used ‘Burgers in Peterborough’ ten times, you divide 300 words by 10 keywords;

(keywords) ÷ (words in article) = Keyword Density
10 ÷ 300 = 3.3%

Remember; aim for 3% – 5% to make visitors to your website happy, but to keep Google robots happy too! If you need help with your website content drop us an email or give us a call.
