We would like to start this blog post by stressing that not every social media platform works for every business, that it is not possible for every business to be successful on every social media platform and that as a new business you cannot be on every single different social media account as it just won’t work.

That said, we need to stress that one in three businesses are promoting themselves on social media.

We have created this blog post to help you understand each of the social media platforms that you can promote your business, the demographics and purposes of each social media platform along with what each social media platform is best for and the downsides of each social media platform for your business;

Facebook

Facebook has over 1.3 billion users across the world, most are aged between 25 and 54 years of age and 60% of those that are active on social media are female. The purpose of Facebook is to build relationships and it is best for businesses that want to build brand loyalty however the downside of Facebook is the limited reach available, especially when it comes to business pages on Facebook and you don’t want to pay for advertising.

Twitter

Twitter has over 600 million users with the biggest age demographic being 18 to 29 year olds; while Twitter is great for news and articles as well as conversations it tends to be best for public relation. The major downside, and something that many businesses struggle with, is the fact that you have a limit of 140 characters which can be a very small amount of characters for you to get your message across and promote your business on Twitter.

Linkedin

Linkedin has over 600 million viewers and most of those with Linkedin accounts are aged between 30 and 49 years of age, the main purpose of Linkedin was for sharing and talking about news and articles but it is a very professional networking platform for people in business. It is great for business development, especially for B2B businesses but the downside of Linkedin is the limited private / personal interactions if you do not have a paid Linkedin account.

Of course this is just three of the many social media platforms where you can promote your business; if you would like to hear more about social media for business and the best social media accounts to promote your business then please feel free to contact us directly.
