I recently received a lovely email from Vickie of the DevelopHer awards. These are awards that cover the world of digital for females in East Anglia. I have been lucky enough to have won the overall DevelopHer award a few years ago. I was also the first, and only, person to win Unsung Hero twice in a row. This made me quite ‘sung’. These are an awards organisation that I have always admired. They shine a light on amazing women in digital and technology.

So, the email from Vickie asked if I would be a judge for the DevelopHer awards for the Best Newcomer Category. I honestly think I was more excited about that than the email telling me I was a finalist in previous years. This feels like a huge privilege. It is something I am honoured to do.

While it pains me to admit it, there is still such a huge divide between women and men in business. I would like to think that in 2022 this isn’t a thing. However, sadly it is. So an award like this is huge. We often joke as women in the digital and technology industries that events in these spaces are great as there is never a queue to the toilet. This is because we are so heavily outnumbered by men, in this space particularly.

It’s great that this is changing and I can clearly see these changes. The fact that the DeveopHer awards have got an award for newcomers in this space is amazing. I am honoured to be part of these awards. As a judge. I can’t wait to see the applicants, choose the finalists and help select the winners.

Being able to shine a light on newcomers to the world of technology and digital is huge. I’m glad I can play a small part in this too. The light these awards shone on me have definitely help me grow personally and my business develop too. If this can be done for the other winners of the awards, then I am very glad to have been a part of it.

All that’s left to say is well done to everyone that has been nominated. I look forward to finding out why.
