We are running a charity bingo event on Friday 29th January at 7pm. This has been organised to raise essential funds for The Garden House. The Garden House is part of Light Project Peterborough and partners with Winter Night Shelter Peterborough. This is a charity the Creative Content Company team have volunteered for before and want to help them more.
ABOUT THE CHARITY: THE GARDEN HOUSE
The Garden House opened in October 2018 and is the first stop service for all people sleeping on the streets of Peterborough. Every person who is sleeping on the streets is welcomed by amazing volunteers. They offer a smile, tea and biscuits and some initial help to understand their needs.
The Light Project Peterborough team then work with people one by one to help them access housing and accommodation, health support and opportunities in employment. As the hub for all organisations supporting people to move off the streets the Garden House sees over one new person from the streets coming through the doors per day.
This has not relented during the pandemic and as expected the trauma that many people are bringing to the house is exacerbated by the pressures, we are all facing at this time. There is real and present need for so many people. The donations go towards helping as many people to move off the streets, raise aspirations and find hope for the future.
As people move into accommodation the Light Project Peterborough team are now able to support people. This support helps them to keep their new homes and connect with community support.
In a recent independent consultation one guest told the evaluator “Without the help from the Garden House I don’t think I would be here now. I was actually contemplating ending my life. I do not have enough words to say thank you…” We feel this summarises the work of the Garden House team.
HOW DOES THE BINGO WORK?
The event will take place via Zoom, we will send you the link. You can either play through the link on a mobile device or print it off and grab a pen to mark the numbers off.
I will read out the numbers twice, and you mark them off. There will be a £5 cash prize for 1 line. Then a £10 cash prize or £25 Amazon voucher for a full house. It is £5 per person, and the whole family are welcome.
There is a drinking version of this bingo game which you can get involved in. We ‘drink’ the number 3, numbers with 3 in or multiples of 3. You can play the bingo whether you are drinking or not.

When we asked Helen why, this was what she said; “The reason is ever since I became a Christian some 27 years ago God gave me a heart for a number of things but also the homeless, I used to prayer walk the city talking to them and praying with them and it was heart-breaking. I know Steve from church and having volunteered one year at The Winter Night Shelter I see the amazing work that the team there do and wanted to support the vision of the project. It is easy to forget how blessed we are.”
