We meet up with many clients to offer them social media training and we are often asked the same question – which social media platform is best for our business. In this article we tell you, in our opinion, which social media platform is best for each different business.

Facebook

Facebook has a very friendly, casual and reasonably laid back atmosphere, this works well for B to C businesses, those that are selling to ‘real customers’ and not businesses. It is important to keep your tone light and friendly when posting on Facebook as people go there to relax and catch up with friends or family.

Google+

In our honest opinion, Google+ is not a great social media platform as there is minimal socialising that takes place on this platform, however Google+ is excellent for the SEO of your site and being active on Google+ can and will improve your rankings on search engines. Using the ‘circles’ offered by Google+ allow you to section customers off into smaller ‘circles’ and just post things to them that you know are of interest, instead of sending them to everyone. In our opinion every business should be on Google+ for the SEO value alone, but using the Hangout feature can be great fun too.

Pinterest

If you are a business in retail then Pinterest is the place to be due to the face it’s really all about images. Pinterest users are able to click on your pictures, add them to their pin boards and show their friends. As a business you can create some really unique pin boards showing off the personality of your brand.

Twitter

This social media platform is our personal favourite; it’s a great way of finding customers that are waiting for you (if you know how to use it right). Twitter revolves around communication, discussion and interaction so make sure you interact with your followers as much as possible. We offer social media training that will help you know who to react with and how.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the most professional of social media platforms so if you have a B to B business this is your place to be. Through this platform you can communicate with people in similar industries while sharing content with likeminded people.

YouTube

This is the social media platform for creating video content and as YouTube is owned by Google it is very much a social media platform that you should be using. Useful, instructive and ‘how to’ videos can be of huge success to businesses. Don’t forget to share your videos on other social media platforms and your website too to score extra brownie points with Google.
