As you may know, I am on the committee for the Peterborough Sports Club Lunch, which fundraises for SportsAid Peterborough. I would like to share the following press release with you;

The Peterborough Sports Club Lunch committee are thrilled to announce that since the success of Geoffrey Miller OBE, we will be welcoming our next guest speaker, Barry Fry on Friday 29th March.

These events are created to raise much needed funds for talented youths in sports. These children will often only have one sponsor, and that is their parents. We run our Peterborough Sports Club Lunch and SportsAid fundraisers to gain extra funds for these talented sports stars of the future.

Each event invites people of the community to enjoy a delicious 2 course meal and an after dinner speaker. Someone that is well known in sports, has interesting and engaging stories to share, and is an exciting guest speaker.

Our next event guest speaker Barry Fry; a former professional footballer, football manager and well known character in the world of football.

Barry Fry is a former Manchester United apprentice and his playing career involved brief spells with Bolton Wanderers, Luton Town and Leyton Orient, before retiring prematurely from a sports injury.

Barry Fry has been a manager for Dunstable Town, Bedford Town, Maidstone United, Southend United, Barnet, Birmingham City and most recently, and relevantly for us, Peterborough United.

Perhaps Barry Fry is best known for a game against Huddersfield Town in 1995 when Birmingham City took the lead. Barry took this opportunity to leap from the dugout and charge down the touchline flailing his arms like a windmill, before leaping into the commentator’s box!

Barry Fry certainly has a lot to say and is really popular as guest speaker on the after dinner circuit, which is why we are excited to be welcoming him on 29th March.

If you would like to book a ticket for this event it is £35 per person, or £300 for a table of 10. It is essential that you book in advance via our EventBrite page that can be found here;

At this event we will also be presenting a talented young person in sport with a cheque to help her with the cost of kit, training, travel, coaching and more.
