As you may have seen from previous blog posts, we often help local schools out where we can. Throughout this year we have attended many various schools, virtually, to help their students. This has been done through Mock Interviews with their Year 10 students. When we tell people, we are doing this as volunteers, and we are doing it ‘again’ they often ask why.

In fairness, it’s a fair question. After all, business wise and financial wise it’s of no great benefit. It helps with brand awareness. It also shows us to be a good company that cares about the local community.

So, in this blog post I would like to share with you why we are doing more mock interviews, again!

Cast your mind back to your first interview. It was pretty scary wasn’t it? You didn’t know what to say, what to expect or how to answer questions. By having a rehearsal for that interview, it means students will be more confident in their interviews.

It’s great to meet the future generation too. I sometimes see ‘youths’ on street corners and worry about the future. However, meeting these students, and a wide range of students, shows me there is a LOT of promise for the future. There are some really focused and dedicated students that are very passionate about what they want to do.

As soft as it sounds, I like helping people. It’s a nice thing to do. To help out someone that needs help. It’s 2hrs max out of my day and I try to sign up for one a month. Is that 2 hours really going to mean that much to my business? But how much could it mean for their future.

Actually, it does help my business, in the future. There is a ridiculously small chance that the student will remember me or my business name in the future and use us for online marketing. However, by helping these students now, they will achieve more in the future, which will better the business community for everyone.

Finally – it’s actually really good fun and very interesting. I always leave inspired by at least one student I have interviewed. Plus, it’s that warm feeling inside that you get when you do something good for others. That’s why I’m doing more mock interviews and I think you should too. If you want to get involved, drop me a line and I will connect you with the right people.

On the 10th December I am off to Longsands Academy, virtually, to do some more mock interviews. Check out my YouTube channel or blog posts to see if I meet any more inspirational students!
