We have written numerous articles about website content, SEO friendly website content, how to create website content, tips for the best website content and such like, but we have only briefly touched on how you should format the website content for your website, to make it easy for the visitor to your website to read and understand.
Multiple studies and numerous research shows that most internet users will scan a website page and the website content to find the relevant information that they need and that interests them. If the internet user doesn’t find what they are looking for within minutes or even seconds they will leave your website and go somewhere else, where they can find the information they need quickly.
Personally, I am very guilty of this myself. If I am trying to find an answer to something or some information and I am met with a large block of text it just turns me off straight. In fact very often I will open up the top three websites or even the top five websites at the top of the search engines so I can quickly see what I’m looking for and if not I move onto the next website.
A really good way of reducing the bounce rate on your website and getting visitors to travel through to the next page is by formatting the content in a way that is easy to scan through and read. Here are some ways in which you can format your website content to not only get visitors to stay on your website but also to get them to go to other pages on your website.
- Bullet points Lists – whether this is just one bullet point, or a bullet point and an explanation as you can see here.
- Numbered Lists – these are ideal if you are doing a Top 21 or 10 Tips for example.
- Headlines and Sub-headlines – this will help attract the readers’ eye to certain parts of your article allowing them to find the information they need quickly.
- Words In Bold – Putting words in bold works really well on keywords or important words, but be careful not to overdo it or it looks messy.
Then you need to have links in your content so the visitor to your website can easily click through to read more of your website content on similar topics or keywords.
