There are five main social media platforms when it comes to business. These are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn. Each platform works differently to the other. They each have different audiences and different posts are expected on each. In this blog post we have put together a rough guide of how to use the five main social media platforms for your business.

Facebook

Facebook is proven to send more referral traffic to a website than any other social network. Make sure you include links back to your website as the audience will follow these. Facebook in general is geared towards news and entertainment. Consider this when thinking about what to share on the platform. The future outlook of Facebook looks to be aimed at video content. What can you create as video content for your business to share on Facebook?

Twitter

Twitter is a social media platform that views itself as a news platform as much as a social media platform. You will often see breaking news on Twitter before it makes it to the news channels. The retweeting and creation of content is encouraged on Twitter and hashtags are very popular on this social media site too. Twitter is ideal for well-suited brands that are sharing blog posts and promoting website content.

Instagram

Instagram is a highly visual platform. It’s ideal for businesses that sell products as opposed to services. Instagram has static images and short videos as the majority of their posts. While some of our clients use Instagram (we post on their accounts for them) it is not a platform that Creative Content Company use. It is not a good social media site for driving traffic to blogs and websites. Instead it is well suited to strong visual brands.

Pinterest

Similarly, to Instagram, this social media platform is high visual and lends itself to strong images. Users will visit Pinterest to find inspiration for projects, parties or weddings. Just as with Instagram, we don’t use Pinterest for our business because we use social media to drive traffic to the website. This is just something Pinterest isn’t very good at.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional network. It is important that you remember this when posting and sharing content. Some users will call you out for posting things they think shouldn’t be on LinkedIn. If you are a B2B business, then this is a great platform for you. It is primarily used for sharing industry articles and general professional content. While the site was originally a job-hunting platform, this is no longer the case. That said, jobs are found, and business deals are often done on this site.
