When it comes to using LinkedIn as a tool for sales and marketing, you need to remember that it is a social media platform. But it is also a professional social media platform. What does this mean? It means that you need to be social, not just selling at people and telling everyone what you sell. It also means that you need to remain professional. While it might not be the platform for photos of your drunken night out, it could be the right platform for photos of a team outing, for example.

It is important that you remain consistent. You can’t post 20 times a day for 3 days and then nothing for a few weeks or months. That’s not how social media works, and it won’t do you any favours on a professional platform like LinkedIn. However, you need to be posting content that is engaging and relevant to your target audience. There is no point in posting on LinkedIn for the sake of it.

I tend to stick to the 80/20 and 60/40 rule. Have 60% to 80% of your posts social and engaging and focused on relationship building. The other 20% to 40% can be salesy, talking about your business offerings.

Make sure you check your content daily to see if people have responded. Thank people for liking, sharing or engaging with your content. You can do this by tagging them. This will help to increase the reach of your posts on LinkedIn. It will also help build relationships with active LinkedIn users.

The key to good marketing and sales on LinkedIn is to stay real, relevant and consistent. You also need to remember your company tone and brand voice. This way it will match on all platforms.
