I recently went to Oxford for my 40^th birthday with my husband. We hadn’t been to Oxford before but had seen a nice hotel in the area and thought it was somewhere new to explore. As a fan of TikTok I thought I would have a look at the local area and see what we could do. It was brilliant how well TikTok worked for Oxford. We were easily able to plan out our 3-day city break with lots to do.

For example, Carfax Tower. It’s a gorgeous little tower that is only open for limited hours to the day. It was a couple of pounds each to go the 102 steps up the tower. From the top we then had views across the city. It was absolutely stunning and brilliant views.

We also wanted to find places to eat and drink. A quick search on TikTok and we found an Indian street food restaurant that had swing chairs and fairy lights. We also found a stunning cocktail bar with flower walls and delicious cocktails. There was a rooftop bar at Varsity across town and a restaurant we had been to in London that made incredible science-like cocktails and food.

Through TikTok we found that Oxford had a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We went there and had a scrumptious cheesy pasta, made in a cheese wheel. TikTok showed us the undercover market which was absolutely amazing with so much to see.

We also found two hidden pubs. One is reportedly the most haunted pub in Oxford and also one of the hardest to find. The other was what we affectionately called a ‘tie pub’. Covering the walls and ceiling of the pub were the ends of ties. It is reported that the landlord used to cut the end of the ties that he liked, in exchange for a free pint. The history in the room was outstanding.
