Since becoming chairperson for Parnwell Residents Association I have been looking at ways I can help better my local community with the help of others; my main aim as chairperson is to rebuild the community of Parnwell and make it a better place for everyone.
I recently came across a project organised by Kingsgate Church; it is called Love My City and involved 5 projects across the city that involved making the area better, cleaner and nicer for everyone. Parnwell was not a place where a project was taking place at the time but further to meetings with them and their involvement in Parnwell we decided Parnwell could be included.
This was an amazing event and I was taken-aback by the amount of volunteers; there were literally hundreds of us and some weren’t even from Parnwell and had travelled from local towns and counties to help make Parnwell better for everyone.
There were different teams of the day including those weeding, litter picking and painting. I joined the painting team with my little family and we spent a couple of hours sanding down the bridge and re-painting it – there were about 20 of us on the bridge and we finished it within the time limit giving us time to join the community party that celebrated all our hard work during the day. Photos of the event can be seen here.
I would like to take this chance to thank all the wonderful volunteers that came to help, it really has made a difference and was actually a really enjoyable day.
There are always people that moan about the local area but in my opinion there are two people in this world; people that moan about things and people that do things. It’s easy to sit and moan but if you want to make a difference you need to do it yourself and this is what the event encouraged.
Here at Creative Content Company we love and care about our local community and will definitely be involved in future events like this; will you?
