I shall be attending the Careers Show as organised by Skills Service Peterborough as a guest of Cambs Chamber of Commerce to speak for 10 minutes to students and attendees about my background, how I got into the creative and media industry and what skills I left school with.

I have attended this fabulously well organised event before but never through the Chamber of Commerce and always had my own stand but this year I have welcomed the opportunity to present to a group of students about my background and what I have achieved because I am different to the ‘norm’ and I feel I give hope to those that are unsure of the best career options for them or students that haven’t achieved the grades they hoped for.

The Peterborough Careers Day attracts around 3,500 young people between the ages of 14 and 24 years old each year and helps them gain information, advice and guidance to career opportunities, training and inspiration for their own future careers. Held at Peterborough Arena this is an extremely popular and well attended event by students, schools and businesses and a brilliant chance for me to inspire others.

I will be speaking in the Creative and Media Hour as part of the Chamber Enterprise Zone between 1.30pm and 2.30pm so if you are about then please feel free to pop by and say Hello or listen to my presentation; especially if you haven’t heard my background before – like I said; it’s not the norm!

It is the largest skills and careers event in the East of England and will have a wide range of businesses from the very small to the very large, such as Amazon and Costa Coffee. There are also loads of ‘Have a Go’ experiences from attending businesses.

If you are a person in business that would like to get involved then why not drop Helen at Cambs Chamber of Commerce a line; she’d love to have you on board in the Chamber Enterprise Zone or contact the Skills Service directly to book a stand (for free) for your business.
