We often talk to our clients about the importance of making blog posts and website content easy to read and digest, but also the importance of making content skimmable and in this blog post we would like to give you some ideas about how you can break up your content to make it easier for your audience to read and engage with by making it easy to skim read;

Short Paragraphs

Short Paragraphs are a great way of breaking up content and you can do this easily by not allowing any paragraph in your content to go over 5 lines in total, ideally 3-5 lines per paragraph is something you can work towards to create really good skimmable content.

Bullet Points

You can either create a list of bullet points that get things across in a short and snappy way, benefits for example, or you can bullet point headers and then go into more depth on that topic before moving onto the next topic.

Sub-Titles

Just like this blog post, you can have different titles and then go into details under each sub-title; this means that your readers can skim down to the bit that is of interest to them and then they can decide if they want to read the rest of the blog post / website content or not.

Questions

This is a similar layout style to sub-titles, but instead of having sub titles to the side some people opt for the question to be centrered and then the answer to the question is underneath this. This isn’t a style we like to use at Creative Content Company but we can see how it works well.

The best thing you can do when it comes to breaking up your website content and blog posts is to try a different lay out each time; of course you will have a favourite but your audience will have different preferences so make sure you try and use different lay-out types and see which ways of breaking up your website content and blog posts tend to work better for your business, which have the most engagement, which have the most conversions and which gain the most traffic or are shared the most.
